I belonged to his gym in Oakland for a year or two when I was about 15-16 (1968-69). Jack was soft spoken and a very nice guy then. He was about 42 at the time, and I remember that he hadn't been seen in the bodybuilding mags for quite some time....but suddenly at 42 he sent a few photos into either Strength & Health or Muscular Development magazine (when they were owned by the York PA group)....and they published them. He looked to be in really great shape at the time. Posed with his german sheppard. I had no idea if he was still alive today or not, so I just did a search and see that he died in 1994. Sad to hear that he only made it to 68...and to read that he had "lost touch with reality" as you say...in his later years. I look back on those early years of mine at Delinger's Gym with fond memories.

I met Jack back in 1974 when he was operating a body building store in Oakland,Ca. He was rather blunt with his comments but a nice guy overall. The next time I saw Jack was 1986-87. I visited the same establishment in Oakland. This time he barely opened the door and seemed very out of touch with reality. It was sad to see how the man had changed. From what I have read on the internet, he died in the early 1990's.
